Metro Compactor Service and Wilkinson Chutes unite to deliver Super Service

TORONTO – April 6, 2021 –  Facility managers’ lives in Canada’s residential spaces (condos and apartments) got a lot easier as Metro Compactor Service is merging its service and repair division with sister company Wilkinson Chutes Canada.

The two companies are uniting their service and repair departments to provide a full range of residential waste services and a one stop shop for residential property managers.

“We wanted to make the customers’ experience seamless – whatever the need.  Our unified team will allow us to deliver on our Super Service promise,” said Danny Mauti, CEO of Metro Compactor Service and Wilkinson Chutes Canada. “Facility managers can call one place to get it all taken care of, and have one simple maintenance contract and point of contact – we’re making the experience much cleaner, and giving customers peace of mind.”

Metro has been servicing waste equipment for the high-rise and residential markets since 1978.  Wilkinson Chutes Canada has led the manufacturing and service of high-rise chutes for nearly a century. Both companies provided service and repairs independently prior to the merger. “Going forward our customers will see more value. Super Service is all about taking care of our customers by being proactive, providing peace of mind and being a leader through innovation.”

The merger of the two businesses is timely considering the current environment and the myriad of matters that demand the attention of property managers.

There has been an increase in household waste during the pandemic as a result of home renovations, online shopping, and the re-emergence of disposable, single-use goods. In Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Halifax household waste has increased significantly – as much as 35 per cent higher than in 2019.

Meanwhile, as private and municipal hauling costs in Canada continue to grow, facility managers and multi-residential property owners across the country are feeling the strain of increasing costs in their entire waste stream and they are looking for sustainable, cost-effective alternatives.

“It’s more important than ever to have a single provider with coast-to-coast capabilities to help consolidate the residential waste systems from chute to bin,” said Mauti. “Our goal is a reduction in the overall carbon footprint of managing residential waste – including fewer trucks, fewer bins, less downtime, and longer equipment life. The bottom line is, less of a property manager’s time and resources are devoted to dealing with garbage.”

The new company capabilities include rentals, service and sales: chute doors and lining, tri-sorters and bi-sorters, waste compactors, bin movers, all types of garbage bins and their parts and its leading IoT service offering iSMART – technology that makes customers’ assets more efficient and sustainable.

Unified and streamlined service is just the beginning for the company as it continues to innovate with iSMART technology, which allows for remote troubleshooting and fullness diagnostics on customers’ waste equipment anytime and anywhere. The benefit of the technology includes reductions in unexpected breakdowns and downtime – all of which are costly and disruptive to property managers.

Super Service

While most of the industry is doing on-demand service, Metro Compactor Service offers service plans that take care of the entire lifecycle of equipment and adjacent systems, enhances performance and longevity, and minimizes downtime. Service plans allow the company to take full care of all aspects of a waste system and improve it far beyond anything on-demand service can.

“Wilkinson and Metro have many dedicated customers across Canada that will benefit from the combined knowledge and expertise of the two companies working together,” said Adam Kent, Director of Service. “We want to improve their experience and service level – and most of all, make interactions easier for property managers. This is the best way to achieve that.”
